Drain lining is a solution when there are serious fractures, cracks or roots in a drain. Lining repairs the structural integrity of a drain without a need to dig it up. Drain lining is done by cleaning out the drain using high pressure water jets and root cutting equipment with the drain pre-checked using CCTV cameras.
Structural lining material is injected with a mixture of chemicals using a set of rollers. Polyester or silicate resin mix can be used here depending on the drain pipes. Once the lining has been injected, it is then inserted into the drain. There are two ways of doing this, either by inverting the lining material using air pressure or by literally dragging it into place.
Once in place, both ends are cut and then the lining is inflated and shaped to the shape of the drain using inflatable calibration hoses. The calibration hose can be inflated using air or water. This calibration hose remains in place until all of the chemicals injected cure in the liner. Once cured, the calibration hose is removed and then the drain is checked again using CCTV to make sure that a good repair has taken place.
Our drain patch lining services is slightly different in that we clean and root cut the drain using root cutters as above but then we cut fibre glass matting which acts as our patch liner material. Then we connect an inflatable packer to some air rods and mark the repair position onto them. Using CCTV cameras we check the position and make sure that the patch liner has not moved or creased whilst moving into place.
The patch is inflated using air pressure which helps to mould the patch to the inside of the pipe. The inflator is left in the pipe until the patch liner has cured in ambient temperatures.
Patch lining provides a 50 year design life, giving up to 100 years life expectancy. All of our methods are the latest sewer renovation methods, all in line with WRc criteria making sure everything meets Water Authority Standards.
